Originally from Kingston, Jamaica, Sean Paul was born into an extremely talented family. Both his parents were successful athletes, and his mother is a well-respected artist to boot. Sean Paul inherited his parents' athleticism, playing for the national water polo team from the ages of 13 to 21.
Yet music was Sean Paul's real passion. He was first spotted at an open mic night after producer Jeremy Harding was told of the similarity between Sean Paul and popular dancehall DJ Super Cat. Paul and Harding began working together extensively, and the collaboration resulted in material both felt was strong enough for radio. These early Sean Paul songs made up his debut album, Stage One.
