Ronan Keating Biography - The Ascent to Stardom
Born in 1977 north of Dublin, Ronan Keating was working in a shoe store when he noticed an advertisement in search of members
for the next Irish boy band. After auditioning with the Cat Stevens song 'Father and Son', Ronan Keating was designated lead
vocalist of a new pop band to rival Take That: Boyzone.
The group were incredibly successful; all four Boyzone albums debuted at number one in the UK and Ireland with the majority
of singles reaching the top three chart positions. Tragedy struck Boyzone in 2009 with the sudden death of bandmate Steven
Gately, yet Ronan Keating channeled his devastation into creating and recording new music.
Emerging as Boyzone's breakout star, Ronan Keating's first solo single, the Keith Whitley cover 'When You Say Nothing At
All' peaked at number one in 1999. His debut album, Ronan, quickly followed and produced four UK top ten singles. Releasing
a further four studio albums throughout the noughties, he received prestigious honours such as an Ivor Novello and a BMI Songwriting
Award. New additions to the Ronan Keating discography over the years have served to solidify his status as a modern day pop
icon.
