Richard III is a tale of villainy and treachery that has been retold on stages across the world since it was first
written around 1591. The concluding chapter of William Shakespeare's first tetralogy, Richard III is an ambitious addition
to the History play genre, containing one of the most detestable villains in Shakespeare's canon. Throughout the play audiences
come to loathe Richard III and sympathise with his unwitting victims.

More About Richard III - One of the Most Detestable Characters in Theatre
Richard III picks up the action immediately after the finale of Henry VI, Part 3. Richard is loathe to see
his brother ascend to the throne, and his unpleasant appearance and personality persuade him to embrace his position as an
outsider and play the villain. Following the death of his brothers, Clarence and King Edward IV, Richard III sets out to further
manipulate his way to the throne. He convinces the public that Edward's children, Edward and Richard, are illegitimate and
murders the two princes in the Tower of London whilst he ascends the throne. Unfortunately for him, paranoia begins to set
in after those close to him lament the deaths of the princes, eventually leading to dire consequences for Richard.
