This iconic rocker was born
in Woking in 1958 and christened John William Weller, obtaining the nickname Paul by accident. During his working-class upbringing,
the future mod icon became obsessed with the music of The Beatles and The Who - by the time he reached his teens he had learned
the guitar in an effort to emulate his music idols. His punk rock band The Jam hit the big time in 1976 after years paying
their dues on the pub and club scene. The group led the mod revival with timeless tracks like 'Going Underground' and churned
out six albums over a five-year period. After the group split in 1982, the iconic lead singer garnered a new interest in soul
and synth music leading him to form The Style Council - who defined the 1980s with tracks like 'Speak Like a Child' and 'Long
The Modfather revitalised his career in the 1990s, hitting number one with his third solo album Stanley
Road which was closely tied to the Britpop movement. His collaboration with Oasis on their legendary (What's the Story)
