        Of Monsters and Men Biography - Iceland's Hottest New Band

        The beginnings of this sensational six-piece - built around the talents of lead singer Nanna Bryndis Hilmarsdottir - are rooted in a Battle of the Bands contest in their homeland, titled Musiktilraunir. After forming in 2010, the band entered the annual contest a few months later, running out eventual winners and scoring a slot at the Iceland Airwaves festival. Signing with the imaginatively named Record Records the following year, they were picked up by US radio stations, propelling the band onto the Billboard charts. Securing a deal with major label Universal as a result, their debut album My Head is an Animal was released worldwide, topping the charts in places as far-flung as Australia and Ireland and crashing the UK Top Five in 2012. Meanwhile, appearances at events such as Reading and Leeds Festival endeared the group to an even wider audience.
