Norah Jones Biography – Modern Jazz
Daughter of Beatles collaborator Ravi Shankar, Norah Jones was born in 1979 in New York. Brought up by her single mother,
concert producer Sue Jones, Norah Jones traded Texas for New York at the age of 20. Introduced to the local music scene, Jones
began to write her own songs and it didn’t take long until she was signed to EMI label Blue Note Records.
A classically-trained jazz singer, Jones' first album Come Away With Me married beautifully-crafted pop melodies with husky jazz vocals
and piano. Her success was instantaneous, and the album soared to number one on the UK Album Chart.
Developing her style in the following years, Norah Jones released two additional jazz/pop albums while venturing out in
different directions with side projects. With the release of the critically-acclaimed The Fall in 2009, Norah Jones
introduced a new depth to her music, adding heavier guitars and a distinctive hint of blues to her songs. Pairing with Jack White on DJ Danger Mouse and Daniele Luppi’s collaboration
Rome, Norah Jones continues to surprise audiences with her versatility.
