The Levellers Biography - Firm Folk-Punk Favourites
Folk rock band The Levellers were formed in Brighton
in 1988 by singer, guitarist and banjo-player Mark Chadwick and bass and bouzouki-player Jeremy Cunnigham, with Jon Sevink
on fiddle, Charler Heather on drums and Alan Miles on harmonica, mandolin and guitar. They released a couple of EPs on their
own Hag label in 1989, before being signed by Musidisc.
The band's debut album, A Weapon Called the World, was released in 1990 and is one of the very small number of
records to go gold without ever bothering the charts. Miles left the band soon after the album hit the record shops and was
replaced by Simon Friend. Matt Savage later joined on keyboards and that line-up remains to this day. The band went on to
become firm favourites in indie rock circles and now have
an extensive back catalogue of records to play to fans with The Levellers tickets, including the 2012 album Static on
the Airwaves, which features the rousingly raucous single Truth Is.
