Level 42 Biography - Bringing Musicianship to a New Level
Hailing from the Isle of Wight, Level 42 formed in 1979. Bonding over a shared love of musicians such as Miles Davis, brothers
Phil and Rowland 'Boon' Gould often teamed up with friend Mark King to form bands during their teenage years. Phil would later
go on to meet keyboard player Mike Lindup during his studies at London's Guildhall School of Music and Drama. By starting
out as a purely instrumental outfit, the band was given the opportunity to focus on their instrumental skills. In fact, sticksman
Mark King had to change instruments after selling his drumkit and incredibly picked up his now infamous thumb slap bass guitar
technique simply by observing visitors in his music shop over a few weeks.
In the years since, fans with Level 42 tickets have enjoyed watching the band play their huge collection of Top 10 singles,
including the extremely popular 'Lessons in Love'. Despite numerous line up changes and a couple of hiatuses, the band are
still going strong today and continue to perform their durable ditties to concert
audiences across the country.
