Lee Evans Biography - Boxer to Bumbling Funnyman

The world of showbiz was in the blood for this natural performer, but stand-up wouldn't be the first place he'd display his almost innate confidence. Born in Bristol, he moved to Essex at the age of 11, where he hit people with punches rather than punchlines as he competed as a boxer. However, later in his teens he decided to follow his nightclub-owning father into the entertainment business, first drumming in a punk band then beginning a stand-up career.

After paying his dues on the circuit he rose to fame in the early '90s, earning comparisons with the late, great Norman Wisdom for his highly physical form of sweaty slapstick. Scooping the Perrier Comedy Award at the 1993 Edinburgh Festival, he was soon selling out huge gigs and earning widespread acclaim for his boundless energy. By 2005 he had broken the attendance record for a solo show, while in 2008 his tour DVD shifted more than one million copies.
