Keith Sweat Biography - From Harlem Streets to Swingbeat Sensation
This Harlem-born soul
man originally worked on Wall Street as a stockbroker. The music lover spent his free time recording songs and playing in
the well-respected Harlem band Jamilah at the weekends. He left the band to carve out a solo career and was soon discovered
by Vincent Davis of Vintertainment Records, going on to help create the swingbeat sound by blending his silky R&B vocals
with jazz and the drum machines of hip-hop. His debut album Make It Last Forever is a pioneering example of the fusion
genre, with chart-topping love-grooves 'Something Just Ain't Right' and 'I Want Her' influencing legendary artists such as
Mariah Carey. Further albums like Still in the Game featured Top 10 singles 'Get Up On It' and 'Twisted' while the
singer also discovered the group Silk and helped produce their album Lose Control.
