        Girls Aloud Biography - Finding Their One True Voice

        The girls' story began in 2002, when they were chosen as the female winners of pre-X Factor TV programme Popstars: The Rivals. Cheryl Cole, Nadine Coyle, Sarah Harding, Kimberley Walsh and Nicola Roberts fought off thousands of other hopefuls to form the group and went on to score a Number One with their debut single 'Sound of the Underground'. Their male competitors One True Voice, meanwhile, limped to second place on the UK chart - more than 60,000 copies behind - and split soon after. The stage was set for a glittering career for the feisty females, who went on to enjoy similar chart-smashing success with hits such as 'Love Machine', 'Biology' and 'Something Kinda Ooooh'. By 2008 the band had entered the Guinness Book of Records for Most Consecutive Top Ten Entries in the UK by a Female Group, while their hugely popular arena tours became famed for high-camp concepts, dazzling costumes and unrivalled energy.

        Going on hiatus to pursue solo careers in 2009, the five-piece came back with a bang in 2012, determined to seal their status as the ultimate British girl group.
