Gaz Coombes Biography - Soundtracking the Britpop Era
Cutting his teeth singing with minor indie favourites The
Jennifers at the age of 15, this Oxford don formed Supergrass with drummer Danny Goffey and bassist Mick Quinn in 1993. Putting
out their debut single and future indie classic 'Caught by the Fuzz' a year later, they were soon heralded as one of the key
bands of the Britpop era. Propelled by the patronage of NME and DJ John Peel, their 1995 debut album I Should Coco
hit Number One, while their 1997 follow-up In It For The Money scored platinum sales. Maintaining their success with
1999's self-titled LP and 2002's Life on Other Planets, they spent over a decade as firm live favourites at festivals
such as Glastonbury, V Festival and T in the Park.
After developing their sound further on the reflective Road to
Rouen and 2008's vibrant Diamond Hoo Ha Men, the band went their seperate ways in 2010. However, Coombes has remained
a towering presence on the indie scene, performing alongside Goffey in the Hot Rats and putting out his debut solo LP, Here
Come the Bombs, in 2012. Famed for his mutton-chop sideburns and cheeky charm, this living indie legend needs to be seen
live to be truly appreciated, so buy Gaz Coombes tickets for a show near you today.
