Future Islands Biography - Melancholic Synth Sweeps the UK
synth pop group started making music in 2003 after meeting at art school at East Carolina University. Under the helm of passionate
lead singer Samuel Herring, the outfit began crafting their unusual blend of new wave influenced electronica, playing shows
across campus under their original moniker - Art Lord and the Self Portraits. The initial outfit split in 2006 but Herring
and two other founding members continued to perform under their current name. Their debut album, Wave Like Home, was
released to minor critical acclaim and paved the way for fan-favourite In the Fall EP.
The group eventually found
mainstream success with 2011 album On the Water. The record received rave reviews from respected music publications
like Pitchfork, pushing it to number 12 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart. Now signed to 4AD their latest album, Singles,
is set to be their most exciting release to date, crammed full of streamlined, indie-influenced synth pop songs. The future
