Elvis Costello Biography - Costello at the Centre of Controversy
Raised in Twickenham, Declan Patrick MacManus took on the stage name Elvis Costello in tribute to his Irish jazz trumpeter
father Ross McManus. Starring in his first broadcast singing backing vocals on R.W White's 'I'm a Secret Lemonade Drinker',
the Elvis Costello discography includes a range of projects with his original band Flip City.
Signing as a solo artist to independent record label Stiff, Elvis Costello began recording an album with American rock
band Clover, to little success. The band was later replaced when Elvis Costello formed his own backing band, The Attractions.
Responsible for producing the politically-charged self-titled album by British ska innovators The Specials, Elvis Costello
has also co-written with legend Sir Paul McCartney and
performed at Bob Geldof's Live Aid in his trademark oversized
