Known for their synthesized hooks, innovative music videos and archetypal good looks, Duran Duran embodies the emerging
MTV culture of the early '80s. Drawing influences from popular acts like David Bowie and Roxy Music to become one of the biggest
bands of the New Romantic era, Duran Duran hits include the irresistibly catchy 'Rio' as well as adult-contemporary material
from the band's more recent studio efforts.

Formed in 1978 by keyboardist Nick Rhodes and guitarist John Taylor, the duo recruited Simon Le Bon on vocals, drummer
Roger Taylor and guitarist Andy Taylor. The quintet signed a record contract with EMI, releasing their eponymous debut Duran
Duran in 1981. The third single, 'Girls on Film', became one of the most famous Duran Duran songs due to its raunchy video
featuring scantily clad women in a variety of erotic vignettes.
The second Duran Duran album, Rio produced three UK top 10 hits upon its release in 1982, whilst the accompanying
music videos fuelled American interest. Seven and the Ragged Tiger followed in 1983, giving the band their first US
number one with 'New Moon on Monday'. Christened the 'Fab Five' by Rolling Stone, Duran Duran featured on the Band
Aid charity single of 1984 and were subsequently mobbed by hoardes of fans wherever they went.
Despite the group continuing to record new material and perform together, Duran Duran's popularity has fluctuated over
recent years. Returning to the spotlight sees the group perform at the BT Live Concert to celebrate the opening of the 2012 Olympic Games.
