        Dragonforce Biography - Power Metal Maestros

        Originally founded by guitarists Herman Li and Sam Totman under the name of Dragonheart, the band released their first demo in 2000, a DIY release that made them one of the most popular UK independent power metal bands. The title song of their debut album, Valley of the Damned, would become a staple favourite for regular holders of DragonForce tickets and a fixture in their live shows. After the addition of drummer Dave Mackintosh in 2004, notable for his fast drumming style and double bass rhythms, the band began labelling their music as 'power metal'.

        International popularity wasn' t far behind, with the band dubbed 'Bon Jovi on speed' and 'Journey meets Slayer' by concert critics. After signing to Roadrunner Records, famous for its metal line-up including Slipknot and Trivium, the talent of the band members was recognised at last when they were nominated for Best Metal Performance at the Grammy Awards. More recently the band has found fame through the popular video game Guitar Hero.
