        Dick Van Dyke Biography - Over 60 Years in Comedy

        Born in 1925, Dick Van Dyke began his career as a radio announcer and served in the Special Services by entertaining troupes in the Continental US. This foray into comedy led him to audition for his Broadway debut in Bye Bye Birdie, which ran from 1960 to 1961 and earned him the Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in 1961. This same musical was made into a movie, providing Dick Van Dyke with his film debut in 1963. After this, the comedian went on to star in the lead role of Rob Petrie in The Dick Van Dyke Show from 1961 to '66. The role earned Van Dyke three Emmy Awards as Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series.

        More recent successes include his daytime medical/crime series Diagnosis: Murder, which aired regularly between 1993 and 2001 and also produced five TV movies during its run. Returning to his strengths as a comedian, Dick Van Dyke brings his talents to the live stage with his stand-up act, touring the UK and beyond.
