Born in 1971, Derren led a relatively normal life until he one day crossed paths with hypnotist Martin S. Taylor. It was after witnessing Taylor's show at the University of Bristol that Brown made the decision to turn to illusionism as a career. Performing under the name Darren V. Brown, he began to hold shows at his university as a close-up magician and stage hypnotist in the early 90s.

His first big break came in 1999, when a fellow illusionist recommended him to Channel 4 for a mind-reading programme which would eventually become the series Mind Control. Since then a number of subsequent TV shows have followed, with audiences having witnessed Derren successfully predict the lottery, stick his audience to the sofa, and endanger himself in a risky game of Russian Roulette. Following the success of his BAFTA-winning TV shows, Derren entertains the UK every year with award-winning tours that have included the jaw-dropping Enigma and terrifying Svengali.
