Alongside a brand new piece of music from Howard Goodall, the audience can expect amazing performances from the Philharmonia
Orchestra. They will be playing audience favourite Candide, written by Leonard Bernstein in the mid '50s. After premiering
in 1956 the comedic operetta was reworked in the 1973 after a new libretto was added - and has been a huge success since being
finally finished in 1989.
Concert goers can also look forward to Mozart's opera The Marriage of Fiagro. Warmly received at its Vienna premier
in 1786, this joyous work of art still tantalises modern audiences. With a fantastic score and light, Italian libretto it
was conceived during the height of Mozart's career and is now considered a standard work on the operatic repertoire. Another
much-loved classical work is Tchaikovsky's explosive 1812 Overture. A stunning piece of music it is a demonstration of the
Russian master's minute attention to detail, marrying the traditions of his homeland with Western style.
Also on the programme for the evening is Bruch's Violin Concerto No. 1 in G minor and Faure's piano piece Pavane. Don't
