Born in 1958, Bocelli began life on a family farm in the small Italian village of La Sterza. He was passionate about music
from a young age, starting piano lessons at just six-years-old and gaining proficiency in a wide array of other instruments,
too. Despite a football accident leaving him blind, the young musician refused to slow his pace, going on to win his first
singing competition at the age of 14.
Bocelli's big break came in 1992 when Italian rock star Zucchero held auditions for tenors to make a demo tape to send
to Luciano Pavarotti. After hearing his tape Pavarotti urged Zucchero to duet with Bocelli instead of him, leading to the
creation of an international hit. Two years later his debut album immediately entered the Italian Top 10 and went platinum
within weeks of its release. Since then the singer gone from one success to another, having produced international hits including
'Time to Say Goodbye' and earning a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
