Verdis monumental opera Aida is a tragic story of love and treachery brought to life onstage. The classic production
has been interpreted many times over the years, both in its classic form and re-imagined as a modern musical with music written
by Sir Elton John. However, it's as a traditional opera that
the breadth of Aida's grandeur shines. In London, Aida
has been staged at Covent Garden's Royal Opera
House and conducted by the accomplished Andrew Greenwood.

Aida was composed by Guiseppe Verdi in the 19th century for the then recently opened Cairo Opera House. Aida
was first staged in Europe at the Scala in Milan and has been resurrected many times since, a testament to its lasting appeal
to diverse audiences.
The core of Aida's storyline centres upon a love triangle between an Ethiopian slave, its title character, captain
of the guards Radames and Amneris, daughter of the Egyptian pharaoh. Though Amneris is enamoured with Radames, his heart belongs
to Aida. Aida, meanwhile, is torn between her loyalty to her father, the king of Ethiopia, and her love for Radames, who fights
for the Egyptians. These messy affairs come to a head backed by a soaring operatic score and an unforgettable final act that
stays with audience members long after they've left the theatre. Exploring broad themes such as love, duty, betrayal and politics,
Aida more than covers its fair share of dramatic touchstones.
