Adam Ant Biography - Climbing the Ant Hill to Success
Born Stuart Leslie Goddard, Adam Ant's creativity was apparent from an early age. After abandoning a career as a graphic
designer, Adam Ant began as the bass player of a band called Bazooka Joe, eventually leaving to form his own band called the
B-Sides. After Adam dealt with a stint in hospital, the group reunited under the new guise of Adam and the Ants and attracted
the attention of legendary Sex Pistol's manager Malcolm McLaren. McLaren, however, duplicitously poached the other Ants to
form a band with singer Annabella Lwin. Undeterred, Adam Ant assembled a new line up and signed a deal with CBS records, releasing
Kings of the Wild Frontier in 1980. This was quickly followed by the 1981 offering Prince Charming, which featured
two UK number one singles.
Despite this success, the group disbanded in 1982 and Adam Ant went on to pursue a solo career. His first album, Friend
or Foe, featured notable Adam Ant songs such as 'Goody Two Shoes', which charted at number one in both the UK and Australia.
Follow-up musical endeavours weren't as successful and Adam Ant began focusing on his burgeoning acting career. He has subsequently
returned to recording and performing music.
